The following letter was posted to all our Friends of Cafeunity on Monday, 23^rd March 2020:

Dear Friend

Coronavirus Pandemic

In accordance with the Government directive Caféunity has closed and will remain closed until the Government feel it is appropriate to relax their stance on these closures.  We fully support and understand the reasons for these measures, but we recognise that for many of our regular customers it will be disappointing not to be able to meet and chat in this special community café.  However, we still want to keep in contact and will provide updates on social media, but you are also welcome to ring us at any time if you want a chat or reassurance or some practical help.  The numbers to use are below.

This café has been a special place in the heart of Heald Green for nearly fifteen years and your support and your friendship has been very special over that time.  This place is so special that we want to reassure you that we will re-open as soon as the restrictions are lifted.  We will re-open to provide that sense of community and love that embodies all that we do.

We are particularly grateful to the ‘Friends of Caféunity’ who regularly contribute; your gifts are even more important during this period.  Many of our expenses continue, in particular the rent on the Café.  We will weather this storm but once we re-open we will need to fully assess the financial implications of that closure.

Please keep the café in your thoughts and prayers and commit to returning when we re-open.  We will only continue as a presence in Heald Green if you again come through our door and encourage others to do so also.

Please keep safe, you are all in our thoughts.

We are looking forward to welcoming back the Grace Notes this Saturday morning from 10.30 for an Autumn Music Morning in the café.   In addition, throughout October we will be running a special offer on Saturdays with everything costing £1!

Jean at the festival last year supporting Café Unity

The Café is closed all day tomorrow due to the Heald Green Community Festival where a number of familiar faces from the café will be involved on various stalls.  The café will have a Bottle Tombola stall on the field, please come along and support us! The café will reopen as normal on Monday morning.

Now that the Café no longer has any connection with the Churches Together in Heald Green and the Youth Initiative charity, an independent company has been formed to take over the running of the Café for the benefit of the community.

Sarah Pritchard is the Manager and welcomes you to enjoy the unique community atmosphere of Café Unity.

The cafe will be closed on Good Friday 17th until Easter Tuesday, as usual.
The cafe will re-open on Tuesday 22nd when Sarah (Manager) will welcome you back.

This morning Phil Young our local PCSO came in the cafe and asked for our help to gather some food for a pensioner who was going without . I announced this to the customers in the cafe and was totally overwhelmed by the kind response .
Within just 20 minutes we had collected 8 bags of shopping that the lady from age uk collected and took to be delivered . Even Phil said he’d never seen a response as generous.
I want to thank everyone and say as I’ve said many times … You are all amazing!!

The Café is now closed until Monday 6th January 2014 to allow time for some necessary work on the drains. Thank you for all your support this year, we wish you all a Happy Christmas and look forward to seeing you all back in the Café in 2014!

Now that summer is here and every one is off on their holidays, we have decided not to open the cafe on Sundays. We are still open as usual on the other six days of the week and look forward to seeing you in the cafe soon!

The Café will be closed all day on Saturday 29th June as the volunteers will be preparing and then helping at Heald Green Community Festival.  Please come along and support our local businesses!
